How To Have Maximum Energy On The Dance Floor And In Life
By: Eleanor Isaacson
Do you regularly fizzle out at around
four P.M. on the job, after a dance com-
petition, after a dance lesson or just in
daily life? If the answer to this ques-
tion is "Yes", the following tips may
help you:
Your problem is not your age, your kids,
your stressful job, your mother-in-law,
the weather, you are single or married,
toxic people, or financial setbacks. It
is probably due to what you ate for
breakfast! Starting your day with break-
fast that is loaded with sugar will set
the stage for an energy drop by the af-
ternoon. The typical breakfast recom-
mended by the SAD (Standard Ameri-
can Diet), is a glass of orange juice,
which has six teaspoons of sugar; dry
cereal, which is loaded with sugar;
bread and muffins, which turn to sugar
in the body; and of course lots of cof-
fee, which zaps energy. Where is the
protein? Starting your day with a sugar
loaded breakfast will not only zap your
energy but it will, at the same time,
make you irritable, depressed and
unable to cope. A breakfast balanced
with protein consisting of eggs, or
eggbeaters, soy cheese or soy bacon,
tofu plus complex carbohydrates, such
as a slice of bread, will maintain your
energy level all day. It will give you a
good solid foundation for the day. You
will be calm and better focused on the
activities that come your way.
With regard to fruit, easy does it! It is
loaded with sugar. The SAD people
tell us "it is good for you", so we tend
to overdo it. Fruit is a cleanser of the
body. If we exceed what we need, we
will weaken our immune system. We
will feel as if we are catching a cold,
with sore throats and accompanying
chills. All it may be is too much fruit
in the diet. Do you get flu-like symp-
toms in the fall thinking it is the
weather change? Maybe your body is
discharging all the fruit and other
sweets you ate all summer. With the
change in temperature, your body has
to discharge to get you ready for the
winter.
Do you get a sore throat or laryngitis
after eating melons? You are probably
allergic to the mold within that fruit.
However, watermelon is not in that cat-
egory. Actually, watermelon is almost
the perfect food to start your day with
since it is highly alkaline and contains
electrolytes. It is the perfect cleanser
for the body. Since fruit is a cleanser,
the best way to eat it is by itself with-
out any other food. So, eat the water-
melon by itself and 10 minutes later
have your full breakfast.
A few tips: Sit down to regular meals
every day. Do not eat on the run. If you
snack throughout the day, you will have
trouble regulating your meals and con-
trolling your weight. Eating in align-
ment with sun's three extreme posi-
tions, i.e. sunrise, sunset and its high
point in the sky, is what we call meal-
time. In between is for activities, such
as lots of dance lessons.
Happy Dancing!
